Hello | Bula | Namaste | Kia ora
Welcome to my website – a place where I share infrequent EdTech and doctoral musings and a portfolio of over a decade of educational development work.
Diverse, is how I describe myself: Learner, Educator, Researcher, Pragmatic innovator and Leader. I have more than 15 years experience in higher education in New Zealand and the Pacific. I trained as a Scientist (Bio/Chem), taught Science for a couple of years and then forayed into educational design and technology. Now, I create courses and teach in programmes focused on technology use in higher education. I also lead and manage a wide range of curriculum design projects, from Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) to specialist resources, courses and programmes.
With a firm belief that “You teach best what you most need to learn” (Richard Bach (n.d.), I leverage my own learning experience to help fellow educators build capacity to teach with technologies – the focus of my ongoing doctoral work. The gist of my research is contemporary issues in education such as networking to build capacity, and technology for equitable learning opportunities.
I stay abreast with the latest developments in the field by engaging with literature, conducting evaluative research and being an active member in organisations like ASCILITE, HERDSA, FLANZ and ALT-ELESIG. My experience at the University of the South Pacific that serves twelve island nations has made me a pragmatic thinker. Innovation for me is responding to meet a specific, context-dependent need.
